Tour de Montgomery

Well... I made it one piece.  *sigh*  Even though there where alot of times I didn't think I'd be able to say that...

7:30- I awake to a huge storm, complete with lighting, thunder, & tons of wind.  Hmm... this may get interesting!  Up & at it, getting gear together.  Packed some foods for the day, & ate my breakfast of toasted whole-wheat english muffin & PB.  Yummy! Got dressed in my new (and only) cycling jersey and my cycling shorts (which I need to upgrade!).  Got a call saying someone was gonna pick up our packets & we would start the ride from a friends house down the road instead.  Ummm... ok.

8:30- All ready to go but time to kill, so hit the potty & then go upload the bike.  Get all my gear out & on.  Garmin it ready to record my BIG moment.

9:00- Off we go, ok we're riding with traffic.  I'm in the very back & cars could care less if the buzz by way to close.  We finally make it onto some residential roads and things quite down.  As soon as we get off the back streets where right make on a busy road and thankfully down hill.  Up ahead I can see a huge group of riders from the tour and I decide to catch them as there going at a much faster pace than my group.  My peeps stayed behind though.

9:20- I'm behind a guy & drafting for the very first time ever.  WAY COOL!  As I look down & my garmin to see some of the stats I realize I forgot to start it!  CRAP!  Ok, garmin started and I'll just have to forget those 20 min of my life.   So far almost all the ride has been down hill or flat.  Whoot!  I'm a master of down hill!
--:--  Okay, I've lost track of time, and this fun adventure has lost some of it's glimmer.   I don't see my friends behind me anymore.  And the guy ahead of me has slowed WAY down, and the hill are killing us.  I make a decision to pass the guy and go on alone.  And the hills just keep coming.  I make some crappy shifting decisions and ended up stalling mid-way up a steep hill.  I had to un-clip & bail.  Finish walking to the top.  But it seemed to level out again and were are back to rolling hills.

As I came to a turn in the course I asked the volunteer if I had someone gotten in the "hilly option"??  Nope, this is the regular course.  WTF!  Serious?  On I petal and downhill we go back into the town of Loveland.  And it's time for our first water/rest stop (23 miles in).  Thank heavens!  After a pretty quick stop, and a nibble on a 1/4 of a PB&J, banana, & some water, off I go (I would come to regret not resting more).  Back on the flat Loveland trail, it seemed to go on for miles.  Wait, it did!  lol!  A pack of riders finally catch me, and I had road the first part with them.  So I'm happy to see familiar faces and I at least know I'm going the right way.

10:19- *ding* I get a text from one of my pals on the ride.  She had an asthma attack & was pulled from the ride.  HOLY COW!  Maybe I shouldn't have taken off.  She said she was ok, and I should keep going.  The other 2 gals are still riding somewhere behind me.

11:30 (27 miles in)- I start slowing down and it gets hard to petal.  A rub sound is coming from my back tire.  DAMN!  The hole I had hit about a 100 yards back, had blown my back tube.  OH HELL!  I was just happy to not wipe out when it hit that damn hole, I never even thought of the tire.  I realize I'm in BIG trouble here.  I had used my CO2 the other day, & didn't replace it.  I don't have another tube.  Or do I know how to change a tire, even if I did have the stuff!  DOLT!  Ok... keep walking & push the bike till ya pass another tour volunteer.  No volunteers in sight.  Finally a really nice guy wearing a "Cycle Sport" jersey stops & asked if I was ok.  Hell no I'm not ok!  I've got a flat, I'm hot, I'm ready to cry, and I still have 13 miles to go!  While I'm standing there kinda dumbly, he grabs my bike, whips it to the ground, has the tire off, and apart in like 20 sec.  And it finally sinks in, that he is asking me questions.  No I don't have a tube, CO2, or know how to change I tire.  He just smiles and says "it will be our secret!  I'll have you back on the road in a couple minutes".  Literally!  As he hands me my bike back, I ask him how I can repay him, for at least the tube.  He says "just let the bike shop know a member of there training team helped you out.   And karma comes around... help someone else out someday."  He parting words where "What are you gonna do when you get home?"  Learn how to change a tire!!!  I promise!
Off I go again, and that was the last of the flat riding I got to do.

12:00- The rest of the ride was pretty much straight up hill.  And all of it began to blurr together.  Sift, petal, push hard, keep going.  Yuck it hot.  Spray water onto body.  Petal, petal, petal!  Petal until I can't anymore, and then walk the bike the rest of the way up the hill.

1:10- I'm there!!!  The end!  food, water, rest, & shade!  Wait... no shade, okay, well, I get to sit down anyways.  I grabe some grub and try to eat.  Food won't really go down, but I know I need it.  Rest and chat a little.  And then it sinks in. I just rode over 40 miles (yeah, they always sneak some miles in on ya) on the hottest day of the year!  OMG!

First 40 mile ride

So far my longest bike ride has been around 30+ miles.  But now that I have my new bike Pinkie, it is time to step it up.  So... the gals & I have signed up to do the Heartstone Tour de Montgomery this Saturday.  It is a charity ride and sounds like alot of fun.  We chose the 40 mile tour.

I'm nervous, but excited too.  I bought my very first cycle jersey to wear to this.  It's very me!  And of course matches my bike.  It's a Pearl Izumi short sleeve black & white ladies jersey.  And you'll have to wait to see pics of it after the ride.  ;0)

*Fingers crossed it's not a scorcher*

I also made a decision on the Garmin.  After alot of debate, and thought, I chose the Garmin 305 Forerunner.  I just couldn't justify the $$$, when there was some other stuff I wanted/needed.  So with the extra cash (cause the 305 is about half the price... and maybe, just maybe they'll make a pink 310ext next year) I bought a pink running skirt & pink compression socks, and paid for the rides entry fee!

They are made by running skirts and where really comfy when I tried them on and there PINK!  I'm saving them to run in when the darn Garmin gets here.  I sure hope the Garmin is here for my ride on Sat!!

4th of July 5k

I know, I know... I HATE running.  But it's kinda one of those things you kinda have to learn to love.  Well, maybe more like than love.  But I really enjoyed my last triathlon, so I need to be better at running to do better at triathlons.

But  I digress... So I ran a 5k yesterday.  Thought it would be cool since it was on the 4th and everything.  But OMG was it HOT & humid.  And sadly I've been a wimp and have been doing alot, ok all, of my running inside on the tready in the air.  I know, sad!

So needless to say, the run kicked me bootie!  Serious!  The tri was easer than this.

So here is the stats:
*Total time: 39:58 (not too horrible)
*Place: 4th (just missed 3rd & a pretty trophy by 2 minutes... I like shiny things)
*Condition:  Well... I had to sit down on the curb after the took my run chip off.  And I thought I was gonna yak!

So... there will be more outside running for me.  And when it's hot.

And... I really want one of these:

Long hiatus...

Sooo... I know I haven't posted in 4-ever.  So what have I been up to you ask?  Well, I've been trying to find my love of fitness again.

And along the way I got talked into training and doing my very first Triathlon.  SAY WHAT???  Yep, me, the self proclaimed hater of cardio.  And you know what... I loved it!!  And I have a new passion for cycling.  Who knew?!?!

So here is a few pics from my first triathlon Girls Tri Too: Deercreek June 6, 2010

Snow, snow, & more snow!! Plus home gym!

This was a pic from the first snow storm we got on the weekend.  I need to get a pic of what it looks like now, with still more snow!  Too bad it would look weird for a grown woman to be playing in the snow!

On the bright & snowy side, I'm going snowboarding for the first time on Friday!  So excited!!  And I have some super cool snow gear.  Gotta look hot... ya know?  Still need to knit a hat.  But now that I'm off for 5 days, maybe I can get that done.

So... I'm writing my own diet plan.  I know!  My body is insulin resistant, so it has a hard time with carbs.  So I'm gonna see about making a diet based on all the research I've done.  And see how it goes.  I'm still wearing my Bodybugg, and it really does give some awesome info.  Very glad I bought it.  I need to post some screen shots after I start the new diet (lifestyle really).

Oh... and I gave up my gym membership.  It just didn't make sense to spend $50 a month, and due to my crazy schedule, not get there that much.  So I'm focusing on my home gym.  Thanks to the IRS giving me back some of my money, I'm gonna be able to buy an elliptical!  Woo-hoo!

I would really like a smith machine and some other equipment, but space wise I've decided to wait until after I buy a house.

What's up!?!?

Well... I've been trying to figure out how to make it all work.  And I've been doing ok, nothing all-inspiring.  Seeing some changes, nothing HUGE!  But small.  So I'm going to change it up.  I'm gonna figure out a menu (meal plan) with less carbs, and those carbs I do get being mainly fruit & veggies.  Try to stick low on the glycemic index.  More protein.

Plan my WO schedule out.  Get my butt up early in the am (that New Year's goal has been a MAJOR fail!!).
